Hello friends,

Summer is in full swing, and if you’re like me, you’re trying to balance work, rest, and everything in between. I wanted to take a moment to share a few personal highlights, helpful home tips (especially for these hot days), and a special invitation if you’re planning ahead for fall.

The last few weeks have been a welcome pause from the usual hustle.

I spent a peaceful 4 days with Dale up near Bancroft at the beautiful Somerset Lakeside Resort. Floating in the lake, swimming from one side to the other with Dale kayaking beside me, it was calm, clear, and just what my soul needed.

Not long after, I spent 5 magical days at Walt Disney World with my oldest daughter. Having her show me around, share her favourite spots, and just being together reminded me how special these one-on-one moments are. Sure, I came home a little sore and tired, but mostly grateful and connected.

And the best part? There’s still more to come. I’ve got a two-night getaway with my sister this week, and another one with my youngest in August. These pauses have filled me back up and reminded me how essential rest and connection really are.

As I’ve been soaking up these summer moments, I’ve also been thinking about how we can make our homes more comfortable during this heat, especially our basements.

Here are a few tips to help keep that space cool, functional, and clutter-free:

  • Relaxation zone: Turn your basement into a space you actually want to spend time in, add cozy lighting, a comfy chair, and a few personal touches so it feels like a true retreat, not just storage.
  • Less is more: Limit childhood keepsakes to 1–2 thoughtfully curated totes per child. Invite adult kids to help you sort, and turn it into a memory-sharing day!
  • Take photos instead of holding on. A picture can bring back memories without the clutter.
  • Be honest about extra kitchen items or food: Limit to 1–2 shelving units max. Check what you already have before restocking.
  • Declutter entertainment gear: If you’re not using those old speakers, VHS tapes, or consoles, donate them to someone who will.
  • Bar cleanup? Now’s the time: Use up what you have, and if you no longer drink it, it’s okay to pour it out and recycle the bottles.
  • Old equipment or furniture collecting dust? If it works, give it away. If it doesn’t, call in a team like It’s Recyclable to take it off your hands.

Take a look at these before-and-after photos, proof that an organized basement can become a calm, functional, and inviting space.

Need help with your basement?

Decluttering your basement can bring such a sense of relief, not just physically, but mentally too.

A quote that’s been on my mind lately:

It’s incredible what space can do, both inside and out.

And here is a little announcement,

I am now Booking Fall Speaking Opportunities!

If you’re planning your next event and looking for a speaker to inspire, educate, and entertain on the power of decluttering and right-sizing your life, I’d love to connect.
