Happy October! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. I can’t believe we are halfway into the month already. We went to Stratford for the day in September and had a fabulous time. The musical “Something Rotten” was something amazing!  We participated in Rob Golfi’s Win in any Market event again last week and were able to connect with realtors we have worked with and lots that we haven’t.  We also completed two more Maxsold auctions already this month.

But the biggest news is that I have rebranded! Check out the new logo up top. Our last one was done in 2010 when I was focused on helping other mothers get organized and declutter. When I started specializing in seniors and their families 7 years ago I was afraid to change it as people might get confused. I decided it was time to rebrand and show that we do everything with heart and compassion. The roof symbolizes working in homes and our new tagline “Decluttering Homes Transforming Lives” is what we do best.

October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Each October, I get on my soapbox and encourage people to check their breasts monthly.  My breast cancer was found with a self check during Covid no less. If I had waited to see until the pandemic was over, I am not sure what would have happened but it would have been a lot worse.  Now it has been 3.5 years since my treatments were done.

I know there are a few large national breast cancer charities I could support but I choose to keep supporting CAP (Cancer Assistance Program) in Hamilton. They help everyone with cancer with rides, supplies, support and more.  5% of my net sales will be going to them this month.

TIP of the month: When Moving consider your new space first

If you know that you are moving in the next year, think about the size of the space you will be moving to. Many seniors that are deciding to downsize go to a 1 bedroom condo, apartment or retirement home.

This new home will not have a basement or shed or garage to store things. It might not have a dining room or office space. Those that have been using their dining room tables for paperwork might not have that space anymore.

I want you to go in every room and look around and think “what do I really need to take in here?” Don’t think about taking stuff just because you own it, have never used it or feel you might need it someday.

Some people like to start fresh when they move -a new bed or living room furniture are often bought so the old ones can go and your back will feel much better.

Make a list of the basics you will need -give up all the party ware -platters, extra sets of dishes and cutlery and glasses. Keep what you need and use on a weekly basis.

Start talking to your children or relatives about what they want (if anything) and ask them to take the items if you aren’t currently using them. If you are still using them then make a list of who will get what and make sure they take them before moving day.

Then start with a room you are not often in -a spare bedroom or basement or craft room. Grab some boxes and bags and start making decisions -donate, trash, recycle, keep.  Make sure what you are keeping has a space in your new home and don’t keep things because you may want to start up an old hobby you stopped now that you are in a new space. It will just give you stress sitting there, taking up space. Unless your hobby only takes one cupboard, don’t take it with you.

Keep going with the rest of the rooms and if you have a spouse or friend help it might go faster. If, however, you feel you could use professional help to get it done quickly and efficiently with compassion, then book your 30 min free phone or Zoom call or reply to this email with a message of what you need help with. We are here when you need us.
