January is the perfect time to pause and take a closer look at your budget and spending habits from last year.
As you review where your money went, ask yourself a few honest questions. Were there areas where you spent more than you realized? Dining out, monthly subscriptions, or impulse purchases can quietly add up. Could some of that money have been saved or redirected toward an experience, a trip, or something more meaningful?
So often, when I enter clients’ homes, I see unopened packages and items that were purchased with good intentions but never truly needed or used. That is money spent with little return.
This month, I encourage you to:
- Cancel subscriptions you no longer use or already have enough of
- Unsubscribe from store emails and text messages that tempt you to buy
- Pause before clicking “purchase” on Amazon and ask if it’s something you truly need or will use right away
- Avoid stocking up on sale items, especially when the store is only minutes away and the sale will return
One helpful habit is shopping with intention rather than desire. If you see something you love, take a photo of it instead of buying it right away. A week later, if you still want it, know exactly where it will go, and have the budget for it, then it may be worth purchasing.
So often, making intentional choices also means knowing when to ask for help. Supporting families through transitions with care and clarity is at the heart of what we do, and I’m always grateful when clients take the time to share their experience.

Looking Ahead to a Little Sunshine!
Next month at this time, Dale and I will be relaxing on the beach in Ixtapa, Mexico. We didn’t travel last year, so this trip was intentionally planned. Otherwise, there always seems to be a reason to postpone rest and enjoyment.
Have you been somewhere warm this winter, or are you planning a getaway? I’d love to hear about it. Simply reply to this email and share your adventures.
Community Update
I’m excited to share that I’ve recently joined Marion Goard as a partner in her Empowered Seniors Speakers Series. Marion is a well-established Burlington realtor whose work focuses on supporting seniors. The link will take you to her upcoming events and how to register.
While my talk with the group will take place in November, I’ll be attending every session except February. You’re welcome to chat with me after the talks, and I’ll also have copies of my book available for $10. If you’re local, I’m happy to drop one off, or I can mail it to you. If you’re connected to a brokerage or retirement home that might benefit, just reply to this email. And if for some reason you can’t join us in person or prefer to order my book yourself, you can also purchase my book on Amazon!

Grateful and Proud
I’m also very grateful to share that my company, Clutter Relief Services, has WON in the category of Professional Organizer in Hamilton and was also selected as a finalist for the 2026 Canadian Choice Awards in the Senior Transitions, Hamilton category. This recognition means so much and reflects the care and trust of the families we work with. Thank you, as always, for being part of this community.
