Happy September! We hope you’ve all had a nice summer. We were able to try a lot of local restaurants in lieu of a vacation. Our summer just flew by with work and we are looking towards a busy fall as well so if you are thinking of a move or just feeling overwhelmed with your clutter, go to our website and fill out a questionnaire and book in a free 30 min call or Zoom to chat with me. Also, if you are a realtor and have a client needing help, please contact me as well. www.clutterreliefservices.com
September is a great month to organize Garages and Sheds
With the weather not so hot anymore, this is a perfect time to declutter your outside areas. Open up that shed and get those cobwebs out. Take everything out that doesn’t belong (or just take it all out). Give the floor a good sweep and check for evidence of critters or bugs. You may need to plug some holes that they are getting into. Then only put items back in that you are still using. Other items can be donated, sold, trashed or recycled (hazardous or metal waste). Take before and after pics to see how well you did. If you are in an apartment you can do the same thing in your storage locker.
As for garages, if you have a loft or high shelving with items that are forgotten, now is the time to get it all down and sort through. Perhaps you don’t have enough shelving and so your vehicle won’t fit in because items are everywhere. Sell items you are no longer using or donate them. Remember to sweep or shop vac up the floor and any cobwebs and group like items together. Have your recycling and compost containers close to the door you use. If they are not accessible then you won’t use them and they are a part of taking care of our environment. If you can get your car in when you have not been able to before than Bravo! Great job!
If you don’t have the time or energy or patience to deal with these areas yourself then contact us by:

TIP of the month: It’s time to look at your Books!
I find that many clients have too many books and are often in multiple places so it’s time to reassess your collections. If there are a few people in the household with books make it a fun game. The person who can donate the most books (or garbage if old school books) gets treated out to dinner or doesn’t have to make dinner for a week.
I am a book collector myself and I have all of them in 2 cases in my living room. I only read about 12 books a year though and the books I own (other than one shelf) have not been read. Once I read them I take a pic of the cover and donate it. I only have a certain number of shelves and so I can’t get more than I have shelves. Being able to contain your collection is an important part of clutter control.
Ask yourself these questions:
Will I read it again?
- If I haven’t read it do I have a home for it until I do?
- Do I want to spend time maintaining this book or can I let it go?
- If I had to move would I take this book to read in my new home?
